Gourmet Deli Squares Recipe

Components:

Regarding the Dough:

  1. Two cups of all-purpose flour
  2. Half a cup of chilled, diced unsalted butter
  3. 1/4 cup of cold water
  4. Half a teaspoon of salt
  5. One teaspoon of baking powder
  6. Regarding the Filling:
  7. One cup of chopped deli meats (ham, turkey, salami, etc.)
  8. One cup of shredded cheese (you can use Swiss, cheddar, or other types)
  9. 1/2 cup softened cream cheese
  10. 1/4 cup of red onion, chopped
  11. 1/4 cup bell pepper, chopped (any color)
  12. One teaspoon Dijon mustard
  13. To taste, add salt and pepper.

Topping:

  • One egg for the egg wash
  • Poppies or sesame seeds (optional)

Guidelines:

Get the dough ready:

  • Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a sizable bowl. Until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, cut in the cold butter.
  • Add the cold water gradually while mixing until the dough comes together. Roll it into a ball, cover with plastic wrap, and chill for half an hour.

Prepare the Filling:

  • Add the diced onion, bell pepper, Dijon mustard, chopped deli meats, shredded cheese, cream cheese, salt, and pepper to a mixing bowl. Blend until thoroughly blended.

Spread the Dough:

  • Turn the oven on to 375°F, or 190°C.
  • Roll out the cold dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick on a surface dusted with flour.

Put the Squares Together:

  • Slice the rolled-out dough into approximately 3-by-3-inch squares.
  • Put a dollop of filling in the middle of every square.
  • To form a pocket, fold the corners over the filling and pinch the edges together to seal.

Cook:

  • Transfer the squares to a baking sheet lined with paper.
  • Whisk the egg and apply it onto the squares’ tops. If desired, top with poppy or sesame seeds.
  • Bake for twenty to twenty-five minutes, or until browned.

Serve:

  • Before serving, allow the squares to cool for a few minutes. Take pleasure in them heated or room temperature!

Advice:

  • You are welcome to add your preferred deli meats and cheeses to the stuffing.
  • These are easy to prepare in advance, freeze, and then reheat for a fast snack in the oven!
