The Allure of Homemade Cheese:
- One litre of whole milk
- Two teaspoons vinegar or lemon juice
- Chopped olives (green, black, or a combination) in a half-cup
- Add salt to taste (if using)
Guidelines:
- The milk should be heated in a big pot over medium-low heat to a slow simmer. Stir from time to time to avoid burning.
- Add the vinegar or lemon juice and stir slowly until the milk simmers. You’ll start to see the milk curdle and separate into curds and whey.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for a few minutes to allow the curds to fully separate from the whey.
- To catch the whey, line a colander with cheesecloth and set it over a bowl. Pour the curds into the colander with caution, letting the whey drain out.
- Mix thoroughly after adding the chopped olives to the curds. Season with salt to taste, if preferred.
- To create a cheese ball, gather the edges of the cheesecloth and twist them together. Eliminate any extra liquid by pressing.
- To firm up, place the cheese ball on a platter and chill it in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
- Your handmade cheese with olives is ready to eat once it has cooled. For a taste explosion, serve it with bread, crackers, or your favourite foods.
Cover a colander with cheesecloth and place it over a dish to collect the whey. Carefully pour the curds into the colander, allowing the whey to drain off. Add the chopped olives to the curds and mix well. If desired, season with salt to taste. Gather the cheesecloth’s edges and twist them together to form a cheese ball. Press to remove any excess liquid. Transfer the cheese ball to a dish and refrigerate for a minimum of one hour to solidify it. When your homemade olive-flavored cheese has cooled, it’s ready to enjoy. Serve it with crackers, bread, or your favourite dishes for a taste explosion.
