potato and meat roll
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground meat of your choice)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
For Topping:
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds (optional
Method:
Get the Filling Ready:
- Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and onion and sauté until tender.
- Add the paprika, salt, pepper, and ground meat. Sauté till browned. Remove any extra fat.
- When the potatoes are soft, add the diced ones and simmer for ten to fifteen minutes. Allow it to cool a little.
Prepare the Dough:
- Mix the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast in a big basin.
Combine the egg, melted butter, and heated milk in a separate bowl. Mixing until a dough forms, pour the wet components into the dry ingredients. - Until the dough is smooth and elastic, knead it for five to seven minutes on a floured surface. Once it’s doubled in size,
- put it in a bowl that has been oiled, cover it, and let it rise for approximately an hour.
Put the Rolls Together:
- Turn the oven on to 375°F (190°C) and lightly oil a baking sheet.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into equal sections (approximately 8–10) after it has risen.
- Put a tablespoon of the meat and potato mixture in the centre of each part after rolling it into a circle. To seal and form the edges into a roll, fold them over.
- After the baking sheet is ready, place the rolls seam-side down.
Allow to Rise Once More:
- For a further thirty minutes, cover the rolls with a fresh towel and allow them to rise.
- Bake: If preferred, add sesame seeds over the tops after brushing them with beaten egg. Bake for twenty to twenty-five minutes, until golden brown.
- Allowing the rolls to cool somewhat is recommended before serving. Warm them up and enjoy!
Advice
- Variations: For added flavour, you may add herbs or spices like cumin. Feel free to add vegetables, such peas or carrots, to the filling.
- Storage: To extend the shelf life of leftovers, freeze them or store them in an airtight container for up to three days.
