AIR FRYER PUFF PASTRY APPLE RINGS

AIR FRYER PUFF PASTRY APPLE RINGS

Without needing to prepare a whole pie, these air fryer puff pastry apple rings are a quick and enjoyable way to enjoy a delectable apple dessert!

Ingredients:

  1. 2 puff pastry sheets
  2. 2 large apples red, gala, or Granny Smith
  3. 2 tablespoons lemon juice to prevent browning while you wrap
  4. 1 egg white for egg wash
  5. 1 tablespoon water
  6. ½ cup granulated sugar
  7. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Optional: Sprinkle spices like pumpkin pie spice with the cinnamon sugar mixture for extra flavor.

Method:

  1. Thaw the pastry sheets. Next, unfurl and transfer to a chopping board or a surface dusted with flour. Sealing the seams, roll out the dough.
  2. Slice the pastry sheets into ½-inch-wide strips using a pizza cutter or paring knife.
  3. After peeling and core the apple, cut it into slices that range in thickness from ½ to ¼ inch. With a tiny round cookie cutter or paring knife, enlarge the apple’s centre hole to approximately one inch in diameter.
  4. To keep the apples from browning as you wrap them in the dough strips, lightly brush the slices with lemon juice.
  5. Two to three puff pastry strip slices should be wrapped around each apple slice, looping in the middle.
  6. Beat together the egg white and the tablespoon of water. Apply to the top and bottom of every slice that has been wrapped.
  7. Sugar and cinnamon should be combined in a small, shallow basin. Once wrapped, submerge each slice in the combination of sugar and cinnamon. Scoop up the mixture with a spoon to coat both sides.
  8. Use a little amount of nonstick cooking spray to coat the air fryer basket, or line it with silicone mat or parchment paper.
  9. Put all of the coated apple slices in one layer into the air fryer.
For 6 to 8 minutes, at 380 degrees Fahrenheit, air fried the puff pastry until it becomes a light golden colour. If needed, flip the rings over and air fry the other side for a further two to four minutes.
  10. NOTES Make sure the apple slices are thick enough to allow the pastry slices to be wrapped around the rings. Using an apple corer simplifies the process of removing the centre before slicing; if one is not available, a sharp paring knife may be used instead.
  11. Tart apples are my preference, but sweet apples work well too! Alternately, try a few of each for variation.
Without stacking or overlapping, arrange the rings in the air fryer basket in a single layer. This will aid in uniform cooking of the pastry.
  12. You should only use two to three strips per apple ring if you split the strips into half-inch pieces.
