Greek Chicken Gyros

Ingredients for Greek Chicken Gyros Recipe:

Regarding the Marinade for Chicken:

  1. One pound (450 grams) of skinless, boneless chicken breasts or thighs
  2. one-fourth cup olive oil
  3. 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt, plain
  4. three minced garlic cloves
  5. One tablespoon dried oregano
  6. One teaspoon of ground cumin
  7. One teaspoon of paprika
  8. 1/4 teaspoon of ground coriander
  9. One lemon’s juice
  10. To taste, add salt and black pepper.

For the Sauce Tzatziki:

  • one cup of Greek yogurt, plain
  • Peel, grate, and squeeze out any extra liquid from one cucumber.
  • two minced garlic cloves
  • One tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried dill or 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • One tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • To taste, add salt and black pepper.

To Serve:

  • Flatbreads, or pita bread
  • cut tomatoes
  • cut red onions
  • shredded green leafy vegetables
  • Crushed feta cheese and sliced olives are optional.

Guidelines:

Give the chicken a marinade.

  • Olive oil, Greek yogurt, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, paprika, coriander, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper should all be combined in a big bowl.
  • Toss to ensure even coating after adding the chicken thighs or breasts to the marinade. For optimal flavor, cover and chill for at least an hour, or up to overnight.

Get the Tzatziki Sauce ready:

  • Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, chopped garlic, olive oil, dill, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper should all be combined in a medium-sized bowl.
  • Mix thoroughly until fully incorporated. Keep chilled until you’re ready to serve. This enables the tastes to combine.

Prepare the chicken:

  • Set the temperature of your grill pan or grill to medium-high.
  • After removing the chicken from the marinade, grill it for 6 to 8 minutes on each side, or until it has lovely grill marks and an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Slice the chicken into thin strips after letting it rest for a few minutes.

Put the Gyros together:

  • Place the pita bread or flatbreads on a pan or on the grill to reheat.
  • Put a couple of the grilled chicken slices in the middle of each flatbread or pita.
  • Add sliced tomatoes, red onions, feta cheese, shredded lettuce, and any other optional toppings, such as olives, on top.
  • Pour over the ready-made tzatziki sauce.

Serve:

  • To form a wrap, fold the pita or flatbread around the fillings. While still warm, serve right away.

Advice:

  • Chicken Cut: For optimal juiciness and flavor, use chicken thighs; however, if preferred, you can use chicken breasts.
  • Marinating Time: Marinate the chicken overnight for maximum flavor. Still, marinating for even an hour will yield exquisite results.
  • Tzatziki Variations: You can add some finely chopped jalapeño or a dash of cayenne pepper for a hotter version.
