Potato Pie

Potato Pie

Parts and pieces:

  1. Peeled and cut potatoes, two pounds (900 grams) in total (Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes work well)
  2. 1 cup of shredded cheese (your choice of mozzarella, cheddar, or another type of cheese)
  3. (For a lighter variation, use milk instead of heavy cream) half a cup
  4. a tablespoon of unsalted butter
  5. One-half cup of sour cream
  6. 2 cloves of garlic, chopped up
  7. onion powder, half a teaspoon
  8. To taste, salt and black pepper are offered.
  9. Chop a quarter cup of chives or green onions (this step is optional).
  10. The beating of two big eggs
  11. Breadcrumbs, to be used as a topping, in the amount of 1/4 cup
  12. a quarter cup of grated Parmesan cheese (for topping, if desired: optional)

Details to follow:

Put the oven on to preheat:

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Prepare a pie dish or casserole dish measuring 9 inches in diameter by greasing it.

The potatoes should be cooked.

  • In a big saucepan filled with salted water, place the potatoes that have been chopped. Make sure the potatoes are soft when pricked with a fork by bringing them to a boil and continuing to cook them for ten to twelve minutes. Let the potatoes drain completely.

3. Put the potatoes in a mash:

  • Fill the pot with the potatoes that have been drained. Be sure to include the minced garlic, onion powder, butter, heavy cream, sour cream, salt, and pepper in the mixture. Potatoes should be mashed until they are smooth and creamy. Make any required adjustments to the seasoning.

4. Then, add the eggs and cheese:

  • To ensure that the shredded cheese and beaten eggs are thoroughly blended, stir them in. During the baking process, the eggs contribute to the pie’s structure.

Fifth, put together the pie:

  • Place the mashed potato mixture carefully into the pie dish that has been prepared, and then smooth up the top. In order to provide a crunchy finish, you might choose to sprinkle breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan on top of the dish.

6. Put in the oven:

  • For twenty-five to thirty minutes, or until the pie is golden brown and somewhat puffed up, bake it in an oven that has been preheated. If breadcrumbs were used, they should be crisp and golden by the time you are done.

7. Add Toppings and Serve To:

  • The pie should be removed from the oven and allowed to cool for a few minutes before being sliced. If you want to garnish it, you can use chopped chives or green onions here.

Advice:

  • Cheese Variations: You are free to use any cheese you like; Gruyere, Swiss, or a sharp cheddar would be excellent choices.
  • As an addition, you can incorporate some cooked bacon, ham, or vegetables that have been sautéed, such as onions or spinach, to enhance the flavor and texture of the dish.
  • When it comes to leftovers, this potato pie is excellent for reheating, making it ideal for meal prepping or for savoring another time.

In addition to being creamy and cheesy, this potato pie is loaded with tastes that are comforting. If you want to make it a light supper on its own, it can also be a wonderful side dish!
