Texas Toast Sloppy Joe
Components
For the Filling of Sloppy Joe:
- One pound of ground turkey or beef
- One little onion, diced finely
- One finely sliced green bell pepper
- two minced garlic cloves
- One cup of ketchup
- Two tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- One tablespoon of brown sugar
- One teaspoon mustard (Dijon or yellow)
- To taste, add salt and pepper.
To Assemble:
- Eight pieces of Texas toast
- One cup of optionally shredded cheddar cheese
- Pickles (for garnish, optional)
Guidelines
1. Prepare the meat:
- Brown the ground beef in a big skillet over medium heat until it’s cooked through. Eliminate extra fat.
2. Include the veggies:
- To the skillet, add the minced garlic, bell pepper, and chopped onion. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
3. Prepare the Sauce:
- Add the mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper and stir. Allow the mixture to thicken by cooking for an additional 5 to 7 minutes.
4. Get the Texas toast ready.
- As the filling cooks, prepare your oven to 425°F/220°C, or as directed on the Texas toast package.
- Place the Texas toast pieces on a baking pan and bake them until crispy and golden.
5. Put the Sloppy Joes together:
- Take out the Texas toast that has been baked. Load each slice with a liberal spoonful of the Sloppy Joe mixture.
- Top with shredded cheddar cheese, if using.
6. Broil (Selective):
- Put the constructed Sloppy Joes under the broiler for one to two minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling, if you prefer your cheese melted.
7. Present:
- If desired, garnish with pickles and serve right away!
Perfect for a casual meal, these Texas Toast Sloppy Joes are a tasty twist on the traditional dish. Have fun!
