Air fryer French onion potato sticks
We’re constantly searching for the next cheesy snack to air fry, and these potato sticks are a great fit. They’re the perfect party dish or sly nibble, made with mashed potatoes, cheese, and a bit French onion soup mix (which gives them a little throwback kick). If you want to taste that wonderful flavor even more, dip them into French onion sour cream.
INGREDIENTS
- 100g (1 cup) of mozzarella shredded coarsely
- 1/2 cup, or 70g, cornflour
- French onion soup mix, 40g packet
- 1/2 cup, or 125g, of Bulla Light Sour Cream
- Finely chopped green shallots or fresh chives, to garnish
- Flakes of sea salt, to serve (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Step 1: Put the potato in a medium-sized saucepan and add lots of cold water to cover. Set on a medium-high heat source. After covering, come to a boil. After lowering the heat to medium-low, simmer the potatoes for 15 minutes, or until they are very soft. Empty. Move to a bowl. Mash till smooth, then remove and allow it cool fully.
- Step 2: Top the potato with cheese, cornflour, and 1 tablespoon of the soup mixture. Mix with sanitized hands until thoroughly blended. Spoon into a medium freezer-safe plastic bag that can be sealed. Press the mixture into the edges of the bag while gently flattening it. After sealing, put in the freezer for an hour or until solid.
- Step 3: Carefully tear the bag away from the potato mixture using scissors. Throw away the bag. Place the potato mixture onto a cutting board and make slices that are 2.5 cm thick. Halve every piece lengthwise.
- Step 4: Insert half of the potato sticks into the air fryer’s basket. Apply oil with a spray. Once all sides are completely covered, turn and spray once more. For ten minutes, or until crisp and golden, air fry at 180°C. Move to a platter. Continue with the leftover potato sticks.
- Step 5: In the meantime, mix the remaining soup mix and sour cream together in a small basin. The mixture should be thick enough to dip into; if not, add one or two tablespoons of water and stir until thoroughly mixed
