30 Minute Rolls
Here’s a quick and easy introduction to making 30-minute rolls. These rolls are soft, fluffy, and perfect for any meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water
- ⅓ cup oil
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 3½ cups flour (either bread flour or all-purpose will work)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir to dissolve and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until the mixture is foamy.
- Mix the Dough:
- Add the salt, oil, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and is no longer sticky. You may need a bit more than 3 cups of flour.
- Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can knead the dough in a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for 3-4 minutes.
- Shape the Rolls:
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Place the balls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let the Rolls Rise:
- Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for about 10 minutes.
- Preheat the Oven:
- While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Bake the Rolls:
- Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until they are golden brown.
- Optional:
- Brush the tops of the hot rolls with melted butter for an extra touch of flavor and softness.
Tips:
- Make sure your water is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast. The ideal temperature is between 105°F and 115°F.
- If you don’t have vegetable oil, you can substitute with melted butter or olive oil.
- To make sure the rolls rise quickly, you can place the baking sheet in a warm oven (about 100°F/38°C) or use the proofing setting if your oven has one.
These rolls are perfect for dinner parties, holiday meals, or just as a quick homemade bread option. Enjoy!
