AIR FRYER SPICY MOZZARELLA STICKS

AIR FRYER SPICY MOZZARELLA STICKS

A hot twist on a beloved restaurant appetiser are Air Fryer Spicy Mozzarella sticks. Perfectly crispy, spicy, cheesy, and delicious. The easiest way to make this ultimate party favourite is to use an air fryer instead of deep-frying it in a gallon of oil.

Ingredients:

  1. One cup of spicy Takis or Doritos (you may use any other hot cheese puffs)
  2. One big, beaten egg
  3. Three teaspoons of all-purpose flour
  4. Eight sticks of string cheese made from mozzarella (Although technically I used four, I chopped the mozzarella sticks in half).

Instructions:

  1. Heat the air fryer to 375°F, or 190°C.
  2. Put the spicy Doritos, Takis, or cheese puffs into a food processor and pulse for 30 to 45 seconds, or until the mixture resembles crumbs. A Braun Multiquick food processor is what I use.
  3. Fill a medium basin with crumbs. Put flour in a third medium basin and beaten egg in a second medium bowl.
  4. Dredge cheese sticks in a mixture of flour, egg, and crumbs.
  5. . Carefully coat one more time in the egg, then another layer of crumbs. (This is optional)
  6. Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket (tray) when you carefully arrange the sticks inside.
  7. Cook for five minutes, turning once. or until the cheese is melted inside and the outside is crispy.
  8. Delicious. Have fun!

My teenage daughter, who has a deep love for Takis, has developed an obsession with Takis Mozzarella sticks.

Notes:

1. For optimal outcomes I prefer to use freshly cut mozzarella cheese that has been shaped like string cheese. Fresh mozzarella is considerably softer, juicier, tastier, and cheesier in my opinion. Of course, you could also use store-bought string cheese.
2. Store the cheese in the refrigerator until needed for the dish. The cheese should be kept as cold as possible.
